New Music Commissions

Building Bridges: A Latin American Commissioning Project

Hello saxophone community!

My name is Tina Uhrenbacher, and I am a current DMA student at the University of Minnesota. For my dissertation project, I am commissioning pieces by Latin American composers for saxophone and various instrumentation. At this time, when the United States places less and less value on the Latin American population, we must remember how much we appreciate their artistic input. I hope that this project will continue to build bridges and musical connections with our neighbors and valued colleagues.

As part of this project, I am organizing a consortium for three of the works being written by Mexican composers. The pieces on this consortium will include works by Felipe Pérez Santiago, Erick Tapia, and Antonio Salvador Peñuela. Each composer has a unique style, and it’s exciting to have such a variety of new works being composed! I have included their websites and a recording of one of their compositions that I enjoy for your reference. These are all fantastic composers, and it would be great to have you as part of this project!

WORKS BEING COMMISSIONED:

Felipe Pérez Santiago: ~10 minute work for alto saxophone and electronics, and an arrangement for alto saxophone, piano, and percussion.

Erick Tapia: ~5-8 minute work for alto saxophone and piano.

Antonio Salvador Peñuela: ~5-10 minute work for saxophone and small Latin American jazz combo.
